Due to a coffee shortage during the Civil War, New Orleanians began extending their coffee supply by adding chicory, the root of the endive plant, roasted and ground. The result was a bittersweet, heavy-bodied brew. Coffee and chicory remains a New Orleans favorite today.

i realized i wanted a good basic mug to share with guests when i offer coffee, but not pretentious. i ordered 2 of these. i love the heft of them. they keep a cup hot when you want, but i prefer it lukewarm- which i have when i need. i like the fact that these have a little shape to them. i love the retro look as well. i just ordered two of the other ones and cant wait until they arrive.
Nice, heavy mug. I like the retro design, and it keeps coffee warm.
I have four of these and I love them. Everyone at work is asking me about it. We are stuck with that Mello Joy coffee at work so when someone see's anything that says community coffee on it, they have to have it.
I have two of this design and they remind me of the mugs we used in the Marines. I know they recommend hand washing, but I have been putting them in the dishwasher for two years without a problem. Perfect size, not to big or small and has a nice weight to it. I am going to buy two of the other design, as well.
