Due to a coffee shortage during the Civil War, New Orleanians began extending their coffee supply by adding chicory, the root of the endive plant, roasted and ground. The result was a bittersweet, heavy-bodied brew. Coffee and chicory remains a New Orleans favorite today.

If you prefer some specific other variety of coffee, you can just add this. Chicory is also reputed to be great for your liver [by James Duke, Ph.D., in The Green Pharmacy]
My husband and I both enjoy your chicory. He can no longer drink coffee, and I just so happen to love the chicory. I can drink coffee, but frequently prefer the chicory ... it goes great with cocoa too! Ooo good!
When I run out of the New Orlean's blend of coffee and chicory I add the chicory to other brands of coffee and it makes it smooth and flavorful. Love it.

I put chicory with my expresso and the taste is flavorful. The price is competitive but community product is fresher.
The New Orleans Blend is just wonderfull but you must have some of the ground chicory on hand. It's great to bring alive the decaf you keep around.
I accidentally bought Chicory in a coffee blend at the grocery store. I loved it and for a few years now I mix 100% Chicory with a light roast coffee. I've drastically reduced my caffine intake but haven't lost any flavor! To think Chicory is actually good for you. Yummmmm.
