$21,000 in Technology Funds Available to Schools

August 13, 2010-

Those Registering for Community Cash for Schools® by Nov. 1 Eligible

BATON ROUGE, La. – To encourage schools to register early for its 22nd annual Community Cash for Schools® Program, Community Coffee Company is once again providing an incentive – the chance to win one of five Dell gift cards, totaling $21,000 in classroom technology funds.

Schools that register for the Program by November 1 are automatically entered into a “Sign Up and Power UP” drawing for five Dell gift cards, ranging in value from $1,500 to $10,000.

“Last year we gave away computers, with the grand prize winning school receiving ten Dell computers. Technology needs vary from school to school. That’s why we’re giving winning schools the freedom to select the technology their students and teachers most need and want,” said fourth generation family member and Community Coffee Company president Matt Saurage.

“Sign Up and Power Up” winners will be announced in November. The drawing was designed to encourage schools to register early for the Community Cash for the Schools® Program, which earns dollars for schools based on the number of Community® Brand UPC labels (bar codes) they collect throughout the school year.

Last year, schools collected more than 3 million UPCs. Schools can spend their Cash for Schools dollars on anything they like.  Most apply them toward things like technology, instructional resources, professional development for teachers, summer programs, field trips, playground equipment or facilities improvements.

Schools collect UPC labels from students, parents and teachers, as well as local restaurants, offices, churches and other businesses. Schools in South Louisiana can also collect points through the use of loyalty cards at CC’s Community Coffee House® locations. Over the past 21 years, schools have earned more than $4.5 million.

Schools must register for the program each year. They can sign up and get information, clip art, ideas for communicating with parents, and other resources on Community’s website at www.CommunityCoffee.com. Click on the “Cash for Schools” link at the top of the home page. Cash for Schools checks are awarded to schools in the spring.

Community Coffee Company has sold the finest fresh-roasted premium coffee in Louisiana since Henry Norman “Cap” Saurage began selling coffee out of his country store in 1919.
