Community Coffee Company Supports Local Schools Through Community Cash For Schools® Progam
April 30, 2013-
Baton Rouge, LA – Community Coffee Company’s founder, Henry Norman “Cap” Saurage, named his coffee “Community” in honor of his community of friends. Since schools are such an important part of a neighborhood, the company has always been supportive of education, and for the past 24 years has offered its Community Cash for Schools® program.
Community® coffee customers have helped to raise money for schools participating in this program by collecting UPC labels from Community® branded products. This year, more than 900 schools will receive checks from the program, which the schools can then use at their discretion.
“Our Community Cash for Schools program continues to be an effective way that neighborhoods can impact their local community by raising money for participating schools in their area,” said David Belanger, president and CEO of Community Coffee Company.
The collection process involves students, parents, teachers, local restaurants, offices, churches and other businesses in one effort to achieve a common goal: collect UPC labels from Community® products and turn them into cash for local schools. During the 2012-2013 school year, participating schools collected more than 1.7 million UPC labels.
The money earned from the Community Cash for Schools® Program can be used in any way that the schools see fit, such as for technology, instructional resources, playground equipment and facility improvements.
In 2013, the program partnered with Dr. Amy Weems, the 2013 Louisiana Teacher of the Year, to develop a lesson plan to educate students on Louisiana’s official state symbols and voting process as a part of Community Coffee Company’s 25th anniversary as the State Coffee of Louisiana™. The lesson plan and more tools to successfully implement the Community Cash for Schools® Program are available online.
