(Baton Rouge LA) – The Council for A Better Louisiana has announced the creation of the H. Norman Saurage III Leadership Louisiana Scholarship for Education Leaders.

The scholarship honors H. Norman Saurage III, former president and former chairman of Community Coffee Company, L.L.C., upon his retirement from the CABL Board of Directors.

“Norman Saurage has served CABL in many capacities for decades,” said Barry Erwin, CABL president. “Everyone knows he is pa_DSC0480-2ssionate about producing outstanding coffee. But he also has a passion for civic engagement and improving public education. We wanted to honor both of those things in a way that continues his legacy of working to make our state better.”

Norman Saurage’s commitment to public education can be seen most visibly in the Community Cash for Schools® program. Over more than a quarter‐of‐a‐century, hundreds of schools have received thousands of dollars for new computers, playgrounds, additional teaching resources and other instructional improvements. Mr. Saurage has also been a major supporter of numerous efforts focused on education reform and school improvement.

“Education and leadership are key to the success of Community Coffee Company and our state,” said David Belanger, President and CEO of Community Coffee Company. “The scholarship, appropriately named after Norman Saurage whose leadership has been a driving force for our brand and state, will ensure that the changes we’ve been a part of today will continue into the future for our children.”

Through the Norman Saurage scholarship, CABL will work with state and local education organizations to identify current and emerging education leaders for nomination to the Leadership Louisiana program. That effort will have a particular focus on those individuals who, for financial reasons, might otherwise be unable to participate. Each nominee selected will have tuition for the program fully covered by the H. Norman Saurage III Leadership Louisiana Scholarship for Education Leaders.

The ultimate goal of this scholarship is to build the leadership and civic engagement skills of citizens in Louisiana and empower them to make a positive difference in improving educational opportunities for the children of our state.

Leadership Louisiana is CABL’s signature civic engagement program. For more than two decades it has helped build the capacity of current and emerging leaders to address the challenges facing our state. Public education is one of the key issues targeted in the program which has an alumni base of more than 1,000 participants from across Louisiana.
