• Blending It All Together: A Red Bag History

    by Amy Cimo | Jan 28, 2020

Over the past 101 years, we’ve had opportunities to do great things in coffee innovation, build direct relationships with the farmers where we source our green coffee, and give back to local communities everywhere. Through the years, and every new coffee blend, we’ve been committed to serving you the same great-tasting coffee cup after cup. After four generations, we thought it might be time for a fresh look. That’s why we’re happy to introduce our new coffee packaging in 2020!

This isn’t the first time we’ve made a few changes with our packaging. We have many great examples over the years showing small changes in details on our bags and boxes to meet the needs of our customers and loyal fans. Among those changes are also timeless pieces of history that become vintage art. Step back in time with us:

    small image 70s-2000s

While the look varies from one design to the next with subtle changes in certain elements of the branding, there are some things that remain the same. One of those is our bold and vibrant red color. The color became synonymous with the Community Coffee name, leading some long-standing customers to nickname us the “Red Bag” coffee.

Another visual element that seems to stand out among our fans is the visual layout of the Community Coffee lettering. “It’s something that was developed, and it was great from the start, and it’s been fun to work with,” said Trish Buller, creative services manager for Community Coffee Company. Through her 15 years with the company, Buller said the creative team has made updates to modernize the text, but she loves the way the letters, such as the C and the O, nestle together and complement each other. “That’s something that we want to maintain, because those characteristics are so recognizable to our brand.”

Why update packaging? There’s plenty of reasons why a company may go through a change in their packing. Let’s highlight a few reasons why we have a new look on the shelf this year.

    1. Easy to find your blend! Our new packaging features larger, more noticeable color blocks, with each coffee sporting its own color and icon which highlight the unique characteristics of the blend. This will help you find your favorite blend on the shelf more easily and more quickly for a seamless shopping experience.
    2. More information! We added extra descriptions and short and sweet snippets of tasting notes so you can read more about the unique flavor profile of each blend and compare side by side to determine which one you might love the most. (Although, we know you’ll love them all!)
    3. Giving back to the community! Things change over time, and what’s important to you changes, too. We keep you up to date on the things you want to know about our coffee and our programs. That’s why our new seal highlights our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve. And it’s our promise to continue making a difference cup by cup.
    4. New look. Same great taste! Evolving – you know this one – fashion, fad diets, fitness, and…butter in coffee??? Trends continue to be ever-changing and just a normal way of life. With that, design trends and expectations change, too. We want to stay in tune with you, which also means a cleaner look and something pleasing to the eye for our fans.

What do you love about our coffee and new package? Share with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

  • Tips To Earn Cash For Your School

    by Savannah Ortego | Nov 19, 2019
With the 2019-2020 school year in full swing, our team wants to help our Community Coffee Cash for Schools® participants reach their earnings goal. On most Community® coffee products, there is a Proof of Purchase (POP) coupon with a point value. The point values range from one to five depending on the product. Everyone in your school community can help contribute earning cash for your school! Engage your community members to help maximize savings and reach your school goal.

Community Coffee Company has seen many creative tactics throughout the years for collecting even more POPs. To help get you started on your earnings, we’re sharing some of our favorites!

    • Remind students and faculty in the daily announcements to continue to save POPs form their favorite Community® coffee products.
    • Reward top-saving classrooms with pizza parties to celebrate their contribution!
    • Draw for prizes! Students can be entered in the drawing once they bring in a certain amount of POPs.
    • Hold special events after school for parents and faculty members to socialize while cutting and organizing POPs for submission.
    • Include reminders about the POP submission deadline (January 31, 2020) in school newsletters and emails.

By implementing your own creative tactics, your school can exceed the expected goal and raise more money! The more POPs each school submits, the more money you will earn for new textbooks, playground equipment, learning tools or any other resources your school needs.

  • Celebrating Community Cash For Schools

    by Savannah Ortego | Oct 09, 2019

The 2019-2020 Community Cash For Schools® program is kicking off! We’re excited for what’s in store for this year’s top earners.

This past May, our team traveled to Lafayette to celebrate Sts. Leo-Seton’s record-breaking accomplishment as the 2019 top-earning school. Not only were they the top-earning school for 2019 – they also earned the most money in the 30 year history of Community Cash For Schools®. Representatives from Community Coffee Company were excited to reward Sts. Leo-Seton with a celebratory party and a check of nearly $8,000. School benefactors then offered to match the check amount, resulting in the school’s total earnings being just shy of $16,000!

The school plans to use this money to add safety padding to the basketball court, as well as reward hard-working teachers with mini-grants for classroom support. Thanks to the supportive community at Sts. Leo-Seton, every member of the faculty and staff, along with the parents and students, can pride themselves with the title of Top-Earning School in Community Cash For Schools® history.

Reflecting on the success at Sts. Leo-Seton, we encourage all Community Cash For Schools® participants to think outside the box, have fun and collect more proofs of purchase than ever before. Be creative and invite your school community to help you accomplish the goal!

We’re always looking for ways to honor more of our top earning schools, and this year Community Coffee is extending the celebrations to Texas, Mississippi and Georgia to recognize those schools that earn the most money in each state. Now is the time to start saving your Community® coffee proofs of purchase for the 2019-2020 school year so you can have the celebration at your local school!

More than one million servicemen and servicewoman make up the United States active military force. They put their lives on the line and make the ultimate sacrifice for us. While we have holidays to honor service members, we can’t forget about their families back home that might need help.

  • Celebrate National Iced Tea Day with These Tasty Recipes

    by Amy Cimo | Jun 03, 2019

While tea has been enjoyed for thousands of years, iced tea is a relative newcomer to the U.S. beverage world. Iced tea first became popular in the early 1900s, after making a splash at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis due to the hot summer weather. However, it wasn’t until Prohibition that iced tea truly secured a spot in the American beverage market. Clubs and hotels needed a substitute for the hard liquor they could no longer serve, so they turned toward strong iced teas—a delicious, flavorful and legal beverage.

In fact, according to a 1921 book, The Spice Mill, Prohibition increased tea consumption in 1920 to 1,496,236 pounds more than the previous year!

Since the 1920s, iced tea has remained a popular refreshing drink. Today, approximately 75-80% of tea consumed in the United States is iced. We’ve even created a holiday, National Iced Tea Day, in honor of the beloved drink! To help celebrate this delicious day, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite iced tea recipes below:

    Apricot Lemonade Iced Tea
    Serves: 12 / Prep: 10 mins / Cook: 5 mins

Though you can’t go wrong with a classic Arnold Palmer, try mixing it up by adding a touch of smooth and sweet apricot to it. We recommend our Porch Breeze™ Signature Iced Tea for this refreshing recipe by Taste of Home.

    Ingredients:

    • 4 cups water
    • 7 Porch Breeze™ Signature Iced Tea bags
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 12 ounces frozen lemonade concentrate, partially thawed
    • 1 cup chilled apricot nectar
    • 4 cups cold water
    • Ice cubes
    • Mint sprigs

    Directions:

    1. In a saucepan, bring 4 cups water to a boil; remove from heat. Add tea bags; steep, covered, 5 minutes.
    2. Discard tea bags. Stir in sugar until dissolved; cool slightly. Transfer to a pitcher; cool completely.
    3. Add lemonade concentrate and nectar to tea; stir in cold water. Serve over ice with mint.

    Coconut Lime Iced Tea
    Serves: 12 / Prep: 5 mins / Cook: 20 mins

If you’re looking for a unique drink with a tropical twist, try using coconut water in addition to regular water to brew your iced tea.

    Ingredients:

    Directions:

    1. In a large pot, bring the 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add tea bags; let stand for 10 minutes. Discard tea bags.
    2. Pour tea into a large container, mix in coconut water and lime juice. Serve over ice with the lime zest on top.

    Sweet Citrus Iced Tea
    Serves: 12 / Prep: 5 mins / Cook: 10 mins

If you prefer green tea, this Sweet Citrus Iced Tea recipe from Taste of Home is for you.

    Ingredients:

    • 14 ½ cups water, divided
    • 10 Porch Breeze™ Green Tea bags
    • 1 ½ cups sugar
    • 2/3 cups lemon juice
    • ¼ cup thawed orange juice concentrate
    • Ice cubes

    Directions:

    1. In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add tea bags; let stand for 10 minutes. Discard tea bags.
    2. Pour tea into a large container. Stir in the sugar, lemon juice, orange juice concentrate, and remaining water. Refrigerate until chilled.
    Serve over ice and enjoy!
