“We are very excited to bring our JA Career Success program to a new level in partnership with longtime supporter, Community Coffee Company. We are fortunate to have such a valuable resource in our area, and their willingness to work with students and show them the wonderful career opportunities in their own backyard,” says Kathy Arnes, President of Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge & Acadiana.
This collaborative effort will specifically focus on JA’s work in the area of career and work readiness and highlighting careers in the manufacturing sector. This project will focus on Port Allen High School in the fall of 2015 and Brusly High School in the spring of 2016, including a job mentoring component.
“As a company that is continually learning, evolving and growing, we believe in investing in the next generation with the same enthusiasm and commitment that we focus on making great coffee,” said David Belanger, President and CEO of Community Coffee Company. “By spending our time and resources with local students, our hope is that they can reach their full potential in life. We are excited to be a part of developing future generations.”
Community Coffee employees will visit high school classrooms on a weekly basis and facilitate seven 45-minute lessons that focus on preparing and equipping students with the skills and tools required to earn and keep a job in a career path of their choice.
The objective of the Job Shadow Component is to connect employers with the future workforce showing the dynamics of the employee–employer relationship, the 21st century skills needed to get hired and stay hired, and expose students to a deeper understanding of the world of work. A company coordinator and department supervisors lead students through a day in the office. Students spend the day learning about the company, various roles of employees, and what career path they took to become successful Community Coffee associates.
Community Coffee Company is committed to supporting the local communities where it does business and dedicates approximately 2.5% of its pretax income to socially responsible charitable programs, with education and the Community Cash for Schools® program being at the center of the Company’s philanthropic program.
