OUR STORY
FAMILY-OWNED FOR OVER 105 YEARS
When Henry Norman “Cap” Saurage started making great-tasting coffee in 1919, he realized it had the power to
connect people. Shoppers enjoying a cup in Cap’s grocery store felt it too — strangers became neighbors,
neighbors became friends, and a town became a community.
Cap soon began blending coffee full-time to maximize the good he could do for his community of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. And what better name than “Community” to show what his coffee was all about?
Over five generations, we’ve made connections nationwide while evolving to best serve our customers. We’ve
continually innovated the ways we source, roast, and preserve the peak freshness of our coffee.
But through it all, we’ve stayed true to the community that got us started.
The Saurage family stills owns Community Coffee. They personally taste our blends every week to ensure freshness
and flavor. And we continue to have an unwavering passion for making great-tasting coffee that connects people.
FIVE GENERATIONS OF FAMILY
We’ve been family-owned since 1919 and have partnered with family-run coffee farms for generations. Many of
our employees have parents or grandparents who worked at Community Coffee, building family legacies of their
own. Generations of coffee drinkers, passing down our coffee as a tradition, have trusted us to start their
day. Above all, being a family-owned company means everything we do has to be as good as our coffee.

TIMELESS VALUES
As Cap’s coffee lives on, so do his values. Serving customers and communities is a privilege — serving with
consistency, integrity, and excellence is a responsibility. Great service means exceeding expectations,
generously giving back, and supporting employees and partners however we can. These are our personal values,
recorded in every choice we’ve made and connection we’ve built.

COFFEE WITH HEART®
Bringing joy goes beyond making great coffee. We put heart into everything we do and give back to those who
help communities thrive. We support schools and military service members, invest in coffee farms around the
world, and lend a hand to neighbors after hurricanes and other disasters because it’s the right thing to do.
Throughout five generations, we’ve always been — and will continue to be — the Coffee With Heart.
