Farm-to-Cup: Sustainably

Bringing you the best coffee in the world starts with searching for the perfect growing conditions and perfect farming communities. Once both are identified, we invest in farms and farmers to ensure that quality is uncompromised from planting season through harvesting season.

We work hard to connect directly with farmers and their communities, and to build healthy relationships on common values and goals. Our commitment to farmers is built on a long-running foundation of shared values, shared goals and shared trust. In practical terms, this means we commit to regularly buying their beans and to investing in their growth. They commit to meeting our standards of quality year after year. We give back to their communities by investing in education and mentorship programs, building new infrastructure, and creating work programs for local farmers.

We have been dedicated to sustainability from farm-to-cup for years, now we have joined the Sustainable Coffee Challenge. As part of this challenge we have now achieved the goal of being 100% responsibly sourced within our coffee supply chain. Some of our commitments include:

  • Our entire Supply Chain is committed to fair labor practices and treating our employees with dignity and respect
  • That our suppliers never compromise on food safety or quality
  • That our suppliers always conduct business in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner that minimizes impact to the planet
  • That our suppliers make a commitment to honesty, fairness, accountability, and ethical business practices

In addition we are actively pursing long term sustainability goals that include:

  • Ensuring our supply strategy contributes to improved income and profitability for coffee producers
  • Supporting sustainable agricultural practices and enable the industry to meet rising consumption in a socially and environmentally responsible way
  • Investing in agricultural research programs that improve quality, farm yields, and long term resilience to the impacts of a changing climate

Communities We Impact:

Toledo & Labateca

"Their investments in these two towns since 2001 have generated social and economic development for many families."
Gabriel Gonzalez Sanchez | Colombian Coffee Growers Federation

Can coffee create peace? In the case of the two Colombian farming towns of Toledo and Labateca, the answer is yes. Historically at odds, the towns entered into a fair prices purchasing agreement with Community Coffee almost 20 years ago that not only eased tensions but resulted in an economic turnaround for both.

For every bag of whole bean and ground Private Reserve® Colombia Toledo-Labateca coffee purchased, we contribute a percentage of sales towards building new educational and medical infrastructure, creating work programs for local farmers and their families and upgrading existing technology.
