Community Coffee Company Has 100 Reasons to Celebrate 100 Years in Business

Baton Rouge, LA, January 2019 — Community Coffee Company, the largest family-owned and operated retail coffee brand in the United States, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. 

 
For a century, Community Coffee Company has maintained an unwavering dedication to making the best-tasting, highest-quality coffee possible. It all began in 1910, when Cap Saurage opened a general store in Baton Rouge, LA. With a fresh pot of free coffee always available, the store became a gathering place for the community. By 1919, the coffee became so well-liked by the store’s customers that Cap started grinding and packaging the coffee himself. Cap named the blend “Community” out of appreciation for his community of friends and the customers he served and delivered it by horse-drawn cart with the name stenciled on brown paper bags.

Since then, Community Coffee Company has evolved from a small family business to the largest family-owned retail coffee brand in the United States—and is still growing. Today, Community Coffee Company is an importer, roaster and distributor of the highest-quality coffees and teas.
